My beloved 2019 Jeep Wrangler Sahara was due for new winter tires. I live in mountainous B.C. and drive the famously windy Sea-to-Sky highway regularly. I have a young child and vehicle safety has become paramount. I rotate between winter and summer tires each season (a legal obligation here) and keep a close eye on wear and tear to ensure I keep myself and others safe. I don’t mind splurging on a tire that is highly rated by a brand I trust.
I like that BFGoodrich is a household name with a respectable reputation, and I’d heard positive things about its All-Terrain KO2s — I was excited to put them to the test.
The brand recently launched the latest iteration of its all-terrain tire the KO3, in a variety of sizes, however, my size (255/70 R18) is not yet available. The brand will roll out an additional 52 sizes in 2025 and 19 sizes in 2026.
Diameter: 18” Width: 255 mm Load capacity: 2835 lbs Tread depth: 15/32″ Max air pressure: 65 psi Weight: 44.55 lbs Treadwear warranty: 80,000 km Rating: Mud & Snow Rated, Snow Peak Rated (for severe snow and ice) Price: $400+ Where to buy: Canadian Tire | Black Circles | Amazon | BFGoodrich (for more local options)
The KO2s perform well on both pavement and off-road, making them ideal for our family adventures which involve a lot of city driving during the week and overlanding on weekends. I’ve felt confident navigating through fairly tough terrain — unfinished logging roads and jagged outcroppings on our way up to the alpine. Highway traction has felt good, though I haven’t had a chance to test them on snow and ice yet (I’ll update this article once I have). I haven’t noticed any slippage and have felt safe in my vehicle in all driving conditions.
CoreGard technology: This tech provides split and bruise-resistant sidewalls, making the tires incredibly durable. 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol: All-seasons rated for Severe Snow Service, making them perfect for challenging Canadian winters. Advanced deflection design: Helps deflect objects that could snag and split the sidewall. 80,000 km treadwear warranty: Peace of mind for long-term use.
Road noise: The KO2s can be a little noisy on highways. Wet traction: While great off-road, I’ve read reviews about these tires struggling on wet pavement. I haven’t experienced slippage or hydroplaning of any kind, even during the recent atmospheric river in B.C., but it’s something I’m cautious of.
I would’ve favoured the KO3s, had they been available in my size. According to the internet, they’re designed to be even tougher and more versatile than their predecessor. They have the same ratings and warranty but feature a new tread pattern optimized for even wear and longevity. They also come with full-depth locking 3D Sipes which enhances stability and even wear. Find out if your size is available here.
The KO2 tires meet all of my driving needs from pavement pounding to a weekend off-roading adventure in the mountains. If you’re looking for a tried-and-true tire with a proven track record and a more affordable price point, the KO2 is likely a great choice. If you want the latest advancements in off-road technology, waiting for the KO3 might be the way to go.
